What It's Like

Wonderful restaurants, fabulous shopping, hundreds of arts and culture venues, world-class museums...There’s more to do in Atlanta than many realize. Home to the world’s largest aquarium, the new World of Coca-Cola, dozens of beautiful parks, and the High Museum of Art, the hometown of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most attractive cities in the region. Heavy traffic (mainly in the Downtown area and during rush hours), crowds, and year-round conventions that make hotel rates sky-rocket, are the least attractive elements of this otherwise vibrant town.

Where to Stay

Atlanta has almost 95,000 hotel rooms, and each of the city's neighborhood has its own vibe, from business-y to funky and hip.

  • Downtown is Atlanta’s business district, with modern skyscrapers, and a wide array of restaurants, shops and nightclubs. This area is also home to some of the city’s most important sports venues, as well as to the Georgia State University, the CNN Center, the Centennial Olympic Park, and the State Capitol.
  • Midtown, located north of Downtown, has numerous rooftop bars and is within walking distance of the world-class High Museum of Art and the Botanical Garden.
  • Buckhead is a beautiful residential area with tree-lined streets, mansions, and luxury hotels. Hundreds of tourists and locals flood the neighborhood’s upscale shops, magnificent restaurants and bars year-round.
  • Virginia Highlands is a vibrant area located northeast of Downtown Atlanta. Its lively streets are lined with trendy shops, cafes, art galleries, and restaurants serving delicious international cuisine.
